Synagogue Director of Operations - Amazing opportunity to help lead a vibrant, growing synagogue in the heart of Scarsdale. (Located off of the Bronx River Parkway and convenient to Metro North).
Shaarei Tikvah (“ST”) is a progressive, engaged Conservative community in Scarsdale, NY. Our community of more than 250 members has grown 20% in the past two years. This role, reporting to the Rabbi and a member of the Executive Committee, is part of a restructuring of our office team to support our growing membership. This person will work directly with our clergy, executive committee, education director and synagogue Board. The Director of Operations will be responsible for all day-to-day operations of the synagogue, ensuring smooth execution of all synagogue events and programs, and providing guidance and input around programs and opportunities.
This position requires a proactive individual who takes initiative and ownership, offers thoughtful suggestions, uses good judgement and follows through on all aspects of a project. It requires an ability to multi-task effectively while staying focused in a busy environment. This person should be engaging, compassionate and possess a high degree of integrity and confidentiality. Computer literacy and CRM experience are a must, as is a working knowledge of Conservative Judaism and the rhythms of the Jewish calendar. Knowledge of ShulCloud is a plus.
This is a full-time, exempt position requiring a minimum of five years’ administrative or managerial experience, preferably in a synagogue or other not-for-profit Jewish organization. Annual salary range is $85,000-$100,000, depending on experience. This individual must be available for after-hours synagogue events, including some Shabbat and Jewish holidays.
Job Duties & Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Overseeing administrative and logistical support to the clergy, professional and lay leadership. Driving weekly staff meeting with agenda input from clergy and synagogue President.
Supervising the Synagogue Administrative Assistant to ensure communications including website, electronic and print communications are disseminated in a timely and engaging manner.
Providing logistical support, as needed, to various synagogue committees
Overseeing all events scheduled on-site throughout the year and ensuring proper set-up and support is in place. This includes all High Holiday related activities.
Directing and maintaining the master calendar of congregational and community events and acting as a central point for all synagogue activities.
Crafting and coordinating the usage of consistent operational procedures for all ongoing synagogue functions and events, consistent with our priorities and vision.
Coordinating the annual membership renewal process. Facilitating new-member intake process.
Tracking budgets and spending for synagogue events by liaising with bookkeeper and finance committee.
Managing all internal operating and software systems, including ShulCloud.
Managing tenant relationships, physical facility issues and security, including overseeing security procedures, systems and physical enhancements, as well as managing 3rd party security services.
Managing in-house and external caterer coordination.
Managing contracts and vendor relationships.
Ensuring that all interactions with our synagogue office are handled in a mensch-y way and making the experience a pleasant one.
